More About Us
Our Philosophy and Goals
The Blue Door Studio is a place to create, explore, and discover new ways of looking and thinking. Studio classes focus on teaching adults art making skills and viewpoints, empowering them to believe in their ability to learn, and encouraging them to see how art can add richness and new meaning to all of our lives.
Our approach to teaching is tailored to students' ability levels and interests. Classes range from beginner to advanced, taught by studio founder, Katrina Morse, or guest teachers, and are affordably priced. We occasionally offer children's classes and child+adult classes. We invite you to explore our course schedule, which changes monthly, and stop by the studio for a visit at your convenience.

Who's Who?

Welcome Brenna!
Our newest instructor is Brenna O'Toole, a calligrapher and pastel painter with a B.A. in studio art. She works with a wide range of scripts and styles, from formal Roman capitals to loose gestural letterforms. She began her calligraphic journey as a rigorous practice of self-study, but since that time she has learned from many accomplished calligraphers including Yves Leterme, David McGrail, Harvest Crittenden, and Sheila Waters. Brenna is excited to share her love of this art form with others. Someday, she hopes to start a calligraphy guild in Ithaca to support calligraphers and the calligraphic arts in the Finger Lakes region. You can see her work at www.brennaotoole.com

“I don’t ever take a span of a few hours for myself to create without an end-goal. This was such a gift, to spend time with others in a nurturing space and just create art!”
~ Printmaking Student
“The class was amazing. Drawing in this way is a mindfulness exercise. I could feel my whole body, mind, and soul focus on the simple things like taking time to really SEE what is! Thank you Katrina! Coming back soon!”
